Every year Brass Band Northwest presents the Northwest Brass Festival hosting bands from California to British Columbia. Beginning in 2015 the festival became a joint project of Brass Band Northwest and Common Tone Arts.
The Festival provides a full day of opportunities for brass bands and brass students to observe, participate, rehearse, and perform with national and internationally renowned brass artists and clinicians. Student soloists up university undergraduate level can compete for prizes in the College and High School/Middle School solo competition divisions, with the opportunity to be critiqued by the guest clinicians and artists.
Past Festival guest soloists and conductors/clinicians have included Jens Lindemann, James Gourlay, Helen Tyler Harrelson, Patrick Sheridan, Mark Gould, Philip Sparke, James Curnow, Deanna Swoboda, Salvatore Scarpa, Douglas Yeo, Jamie Hood, David Gordon, Stephen Bulla, Charles Villarrubia, Stephen Fissel, Allen Vizzutti, and Stephen Arthur Allen.
The Festival ends with the evening Gala Concert featuring all the participating brass bands, the Festival Brass Ensemble, and the guest soloist.
