Year of the Dragon
October 20 @ 2:30 pm -4:30 pm

Brass Band Northwest opens our season with the thrilling “Year of the Dragon’ by Philip Sparke. This is one of the few works originally written for brass band that has been claimed by other ensembles. “The Year of the Dragon” was commissioned by the Cory Band, from South Wales, to celebrate their centennial. The work was such a success that the Cory Band commissioned Sparke for a second work, “Hail the Dragon” to celebrate their 125th anniversary. The dragon referenced in the title is Wales which features a dragon on the national flag.
Dragons are the central theme of the concert, whether that means music of wales—the works by Sparke, Glyn, Vaughn-Williams, and Jenkins—or actual dragons—the music by Shore, Ramin, and Imagine Dragons.
