The focus of our final concert of the 2016-17 season is a piece by John McCabe of the same name — Cloudcatcher Fells. The title comes out of the poem “Cockermouth” by David Wright, which McCabe found in The Lake District: An Anthology, by Robert Hales (1977).
We finish our season of looking at major works by Edward Gregson with two of his early works: Chalk Farm No. 2 (could there possibly be a less interesting name for a piece of music?) and Intrada. Both works are vivacious, displaying the enthusiasm of a young composer.
Music by Sparke, Fauré, Reed, and Ginestera round out this 2016-17 season finale.
