Bremerton Performing Arts Center
Brass Band Northwest makes our first foray west across Puget Sound to Bremerton, where we will close out the West Sound Entertainment Association’s 2016-17 concert series for the Kitsap County community.
Join us and, while there, follow us on an even more distant journey — to and through the moors and highlands of Scotland. A major feature of this concert will be five movements of the beautiful and epic Hymn of the Highlands by renowned modern English composer for brass band, Philip Sparke. Each movement is named after actual locations in the Scottish Highlands.
In addition, we continue our season-long exploration of contemporary composer Edward Gregson’s works with the performance of his symphonic study, The Plantagenets. This piece, which portrays the mood and feelings of the age of the royal House of Plantagenet — rulers of England from the mid-12th to the late 15th centuries — is typical of the virtuosity of modern brass band writing.
Also featured on the program will be the always popular First Suite in Eb for Military Band by early 20th century English composer Gustav Holst.
Finally, a mixture of other fun and popular music, old and new, rounds out this exciting program!
