We continue our season-long exploration of contemporary composer Edward Gregson’s works with the performance of his symphonic study, The Plantagenets. This piece, which portrays the mood and feelings of the age of the royal House of Plantagenet — rulers of England from the mid-12th to the late-15th centuries — is typical of the virtuosity of modern brass band writing.
Also featured are early 20th century English composer Gustav Holst (First Suite in Eb for Military Band), and contemporary English composer Philip Sparke, with five movements from Hymn of the Highlands.
